Gopal Krishna Gokhale & his contribution to Indian Freedom Struggle

Gopal Krishna Gokhale (1866-1915) Best known as "the Political Guru of Gandhi", Gokhale was born in 1866 at Kolhapur in Maharashtra. He graduated from Elphinstone College, Mumbai in 1884. At the young age of 20, he became Professor of History and Economics at the Fergusson College, Poona. For four years he edited the 'Sudharak', a quarterly journal of the Poona Sarvajanik Sabha. In 1904 he was awarded the title of CIE (Companion of the Indian Empire). During his visit to England in 1905, he tried to persuade the British statesmen not to give effect to the Partition of Bengal. He, however, failed in his efforts.

Gokhale's Contribution to the Freedom Struggle:
Gokhale's Contribution to the Freedom Struggle:
1.            Foremost among the Congress Leaders: Gokhale was one of India's most respected leaders. He presided over the Varanasi Session of the Congress in 1905. He was a man with moderate views and had immense faith in British liberalism. Gokhale urged that "the goal of the Congress should be the attainment of a form of government similar to that which existed in the self-governing colonies of the British empire."
"The field of constitutional agitation was a very wide one... Three things were excluded—rebellion, aiding or abetting a foreign invasion, and resort to crime. ; Roughly speaking, barring these three things, all else was constitutional." —Gokhale

Endocrine Glands & Their Hormones

The endocrine system is made up of the endocrine glands that secrete hormones. Although there are eight major endocrine glands scattered throughout the body, they are still considered to be one system because they have similar functions, similar mechanisms of influence, and many important interrelationships.

Some glands also have non-endocrine regions that have functions other than hormone secretion. For example, the pancreas has a major exocrine portion that secretes digestive enzymes and an endocrine portion that secretes hormones. The ovaries and testes secrete hormones and also produce the ova and sperm. Some organs, such as the stomach, intestines, and heart, produce hormones, but their primary function is not hormone secretion.

Post division, Seemandhra students uncertain about education, job prospects! - TOI - 20/02/2014

(appsc notification 2014, appsc latest news, ap govt jobs, government jobs in andhra pradesh, government jobs in hyderabad, group 2 exam details, govt jobs in ap 2013 notifications)

Seemandhra youth in Hyderabad are both hopeful and apprehensive about the repercussions of bifurcation on their education and job prospects. While some are worried about regional politics hampering their job prospects in Telangana, others are concerned about getting their degrees from a different state, still others are worried about an imminent relocation to the residuary state.

A 23-year-old postgraduate student from Osmania University, Amal Krishna, who fought his way to get admission in the university in the midst of T trouble, was anxious the day after the Lok Sabha passed the bifurcation Bill. "I was thinking of staying put in OU even as I appear for APPSC. Now staying in Hyderabad will only hamper my plans. I will have to discontinue studies here and go back to Vijayawada to take the state service examinations," Krishna, who has been in Hyderabad for the past 10 years, said.

"I have a job offer in hand and was thinking of staying in the city until I make it to a reputed US-based institute for my master's degree. But now the job market in the city is not encouraging, what with the current climate of regionalism," said Senthi Kumar, whose family settled in Dilsukhnagar three generations ago. His friends from Telangana region have been rather supportive, he added.

Imperialism in China and its END!

Imperialism in China
Certainly it is an interesting thing to study about imperialism in China. The Chinese regarded themselves as superior, and the only truly civilized in the world. The other Asian traders adopted the Chinese culture but not the European traders. Hence the trade with these foreign powers was restricted to the cities of Canton and Macao from 1757 by the Chinese Emperor. But the Europeans were irritated by the Chinese behavior.
To India, the British imported sufficient British goods from England for Indian goods. It avoided them paying in gold. But the Chinese restricted all trades to the specific ports under the supervision of government officials. The Chinese sold tea and coffee to the British but always wanted payment in gold. Over time, the British became worried that huge amounts of gold were ending up in China. So they found out a short cut.
First Opium War A.D 1839-A.D 1842
The British started to grow opium in India and sell it in China. They sold opium for Chinese goods, or even for gold. The Chinese thought that their peace was disturbed by the Europeans. On the other hand European traders were increasingly irritated by the high customs duties they had to pay and by the attempts to curb the growing import trade in opium. By 1800 its importation was forbidden by the imperial government. However, the opium trade continued to boom. The British, who had lions share in opium trade resorted to war in 1839. The warwas called First Opium War.
The Chinese were defeated and forced to sign the Treaty of Nanking in 1842. According to the treaty China gave up the island of Hong Kong permanently to England. It also opened five ports to the British Traders. The English were also given extra territorial jurisdiction in criminal cases.
Imperialism in China
Taiping Rebellion - A.D 1854
The Americans, the French and other foreign countries signed similar treaties with China. The Chinese rebelled against the native Manchu kings and the foreigners in 1854. The rebellion was known as Taiping Rebellion and it was also suppressed.
