The
Third Battle of Panipat was fought in 1761 between Ahmed Shah Abdali and
Marathas. The Battle proved to be the Waterloo for the Marathas.
The crushing
defeat they suffered ruined all possibilities of establishing a Hindu empire.
The impact on the Might Maratha Empire :
- It was a great set back to their supremacy and prestige.
- It gave an opportunity to the English East India Company to establish its political influence.
- The Maratha Chiefs broke away from the Peshwa and unity among Marathas ended with this war.
