Hi all, in
this article I would like to bring out few Do's and Don'ts that one must follow
in an interview. Interviewers judge candidates on three big areas: the
candidate’s first impression, the quality of the answers, and the quality of
the questions.
- Arrive 15-20 min early to the interview hall.
- Do not show your nervousness. Feel relaxed.
- Firmly shake hands with the interviewer in the beginning and at the end for giving you the opportunity.
- Maintain eye contact, do not cross fold your legs, maintain proper body language.
- Be confident. Do not bluff with answers for which you are not confident enough.
- To answer the question “tell me about yourself”- do not repeat what is there in your resume. Be simple and precise. Make sure that you don't bore the interviewer.
- Be prepared with common questions such as “Tell me about yourself”, “what do you expect from our company?” , “what are your achievements?”. They look simple, but recollect them before a mirror answering them.
- Maintain your resume in a neat and simple format. 80% of the interview is based on your resume. So, back up your resume at least once before the interview.
- Don't argue with the interviewer, no matter what. Remember to keep things positive!
- Respond to your questions with examples where ever possible.
- Make sure you fully understand the question and query any point about which you may be doubtful.
- Have intelligent questions prepared that you would like to ask the interviewer.
- Don't make negative comments about your previous employees/organization.
- Don't talk about salary, holidays or bonuses unless they bring them up.
- If there are more than one interviewer, then make an eye contact with everyone. Return your attention to the person who questioned you.
- Don't interrupt the interviewer before they have finished asking you a question and never finish their sentences for them.
- Never say “I don't have any weakness”. Everyone has weakness. Openly state them and how you have learnt from it.
- Don't answer questions too short or too long.
- Don't lie. The interviewer does not expect you to know everything. Never claim to know the answer to something when you don’t.
- Don't make any excuses.
Regarding the dressing style:
- Do not wear too stylish or too simple clothes.
- Boys should avoid wearing jeans. Simple formal clothes should be preferred.
- Clean shave is mandate.
- Girls should avoid wearing bright colored dresses. Simple cotton clothes should be preferred.
- Polish your shoes.
- Do not use strong perfume.
At the End It's like - Either “confuse” or “convince” them.
Confidence matters!
