Important Imaging Instruments used in Medicine - for General Awareness

Tomography: Used to create 3D-image of internal parts of the body, at any depth. It helps in diagnosis of cysts, calculi, cancer, etc.

CT Scanning: Technique used to scan the internal body parts through use of radioactive isotopes, having specific affinity for tissues of the organ to be scanned (e.g. Im for thyroid gland). It helps in diagnosis of disorder in abdomen, chest, spinal cord, etc.

Computerised Axial Tomography (CAT) Scanning: A development of diagnostic radiology for examination of soft tissues of the body, through use of X-ray. It helps to reveal normal anatomy of brain, distinguish pathological conditions, such as, tumors, abscess in ventricles, etc.

Important Imaging Instruments used in Medicine - for General Awareness
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR1) Scanning: Sophisticated method of scanning using natural safe forces, viz., magnetic fields and radio waves having greater preciseness.

Ultrasound Scan: Used to reveal structural anatomy or stone in Urinary tract or kidney.
