Population in Andhra Pradesh:
The Schedule Caste population in the state is on the rise. Andhra
Pradesh recorded an increase of 12.47% in the SC population. From 1,23,39,496
members of this community in 2001, it has surged to 1,38,78,078 in 2011,
accounting for 16.41% of the total population of the state.
Prakasam district topped the list with 7,87,861 SC population in 2011
against 6,51,498 in 2001. Srikakulam, Anantapur, Chittoor and Krishna districts
also recorded high SC populations in the state. With respect of Scheduled Tribe
population, AP registered a 17.79% growth. As per the 2011 census, the total ST
population in the state stands at 59,18,073 as compared to 50,24,104 in 2001.
Khammam district has the highest number of STs followed by
Visakhapatnam and Adilabad districts. Khammam has 7,65,565 STs whereas
Visakhapatnam has 6,18,500 and Adilabad 4,95,794. Nine mandals in Visakhapatnam
are in top ten place with highest ST population. They are Chintapalle with
64,703, Gudem Kotha Veedhi-56,757, Araku Valley-51,876, G Madugula-49,970, Peda
Bayalu-49,937, Hukumpeta-49,594, Paderu-48,694, Dumbriguda-46,479 and Munchingi
Puttu with 44,538 ST populations. Incidentally, Hyderabad recorded the lowest
SC and ST population.
