NATIONAL HIGHWAYS At the time of formation of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1956, National Highway 4,5,7,9 & 43 were passing through Andhra Pradesh covering a total length of 2352 Kms. Since then NH No. 16 , 18 & 63 have been added . Recently Ministry of Surface Transport / Government of India have declared the new National Highways 202, 205, extension of NH 9 vide Government of India Gazette No.7 Dated 6/1/99, NH-219 declared vide Government of India Gazette Dated 12-10-2000, National Highway No.214 vide Gazette of India No. 420 Dated 7/7/99 and 214A,221 & 222 are declared vide Government of India Gazette Dated 25-02--2004.
National Highway No. 5 between Chennai and Calcutta running for a length of 1014 km in A.P. has been entrusted to N.H.A.I. by Ministry of Surface Transport vide Government of India Gazette No. 181 dated 24/3/98 and MOST notification dated 4/2/98.For executing under National HighWays Devolpment Programe ( NHDP ).Also N.H. 9 for a length of 48kms from Km 217.0 to 265.0 is entrusted to NHAI for taking up development works.
Simularly N.H no 7 between Nagpur and Bangalore running for a length of 772 kms i AP has been entrusted to N.H.A.I. by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways vide Gazette of India No.442 dated 6/3/2000 and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Notification dated 26th April 2002. However NHAI have retained State PWD as its executing agency to overlook the maintenance of NH 7 (excluding the reaches from Km 447 to 436 of NH section and from Km 9.4 to 34.8 of H.B section of NH 7) by providing funds on similar lines of MOST/GOI with ADB loan assistance. The total length handed over to NHAI is 1834 kms.
