On the day of formation of the Department in the year 1965 the length of the roads is 21,510 km. The road length has increased year after leading to length of 68,286 km as on today resulting in an increase of 3.17 times.

The growth of vehicle population in the State has increased from 24,500 in 1956 to 57,97,012 in 2005. The growth of infrastructure and vehicle population per 1000 population is indicated below.
